Supporting Sustainable Recovery
Accra Mayor Mohammed Adjei Sowah has been working with C40 Cities and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy to ensure a healthier and more sustainable future for his city’s nearly 2.3 million residents.
With their support, Mayor Adjei Sowah has pushed forward on his climate agenda despite the pandemic, launching Accra’s first five-year Climate Action Plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 in October 2020 and making progress on priority actions such as major open-space greening projects and bus rapid transit systems. These efforts to mitigate climate change and build resilience are critical for protecting — and improving — the economic livelihoods and wellbeing of this coastal city’s residents.
